East Side or West Side: How Cincinnatians Can Find an Eye Doctor Worth the Drive

East Side or West Side: How Cincinnatians Can Find an Eye Doctor Worth the Drive

Cincinnati is a city of neighborhoods—and Cincinnatians tend to be loyal to their side of town.

Ask someone where they live and you're likely to hear Hyde Park, Oakley, Mariemont, Anderson, Westwood, Delhi, or Green Township before you simply hear "Cincinnati."

And if the conversation goes on long enough, someone will probably ask the classic Cincinnati question:

"Where did you go to high school?"

There's something special about that sense of community. We value familiarity, relationships, and finding local businesses and healthcare providers we can trust.

But when you're choosing an eye doctor, does the best optometrist for you necessarily have to be the closest one?

At See Well Eyecare, we're located in Hyde Park on Cincinnati's East Side, but we welcome patients from throughout Greater Cincinnati. Whether you're searching for an East Side eye doctor, a West Side Cincinnati optometrist, or simply a better experience for your next eye exam, we believe the most important question isn't always "Who's closest?"

It may be:

"Who do I trust to care for my eyes for years to come?"

East Side or West Side: Does Location Really Matter?

Convenience matters. Between work, school, kids' activities, and Cincinnati traffic, nobody wants to spend unnecessary time driving to an appointment.

But your relationship with your eye doctor may last 10, 20, or even 30 years.

Your needs can also change considerably during that time.

You may initially visit because your glasses prescription changed. A few years later, you may want contact lenses or progressive lenses. Eventually, you might need help with dry eye, diabetes-related eye care, cataracts, or another medical eye concern. Your children may need their first eye exams or begin developing nearsightedness.

That's where continuity becomes valuable.

Having an optometrist who knows your history, understands your visual needs, can compare changes from year to year, and has built a relationship with your family can matter much more than saving a few minutes in the car.

What Makes an Eye Doctor Worth the Drive?

We're not suggesting everyone in Cincinnati needs to cross town for an eye exam. There are excellent healthcare providers throughout our city.

But if you're searching for a new eye doctor, it may be worth looking beyond your ZIP code.

Perhaps your previous appointments felt rushed.

Maybe you rarely saw the same doctor twice.

Maybe you left with a new prescription but didn't really understand what the doctor found.

Or perhaps you're simply looking for a smaller, independent practice where you can develop a relationship with your optometrist.

At See Well Eyecare, we're building the kind of practice we hope patients choose because of the overall experience—not simply because we're the closest office.

We want you to have time to ask questions. We want you to understand what we're seeing. We want to remember your history when you return next year.

Sometimes convenience means having an eye doctor five minutes from home.

Sometimes convenience means finding one practice you trust for your family's eye care, glasses, contact lenses, and changing vision needs over time.

What Should You Look for When Choosing a Cincinnati Optometrist?

Online reviews and location can be helpful, but they shouldn't be the only factors you consider.

When choosing an eye doctor, ask yourself:

  • Will I have enough time with my doctor?
  • Will my questions be taken seriously?
  • Will the doctor explain the results of my examination?
  • Will I consistently see the same provider?
  • Can the practice care for both routine and more complex eye concerns?
  • Does the office use modern diagnostic technology?
  • Can my family receive care in the same practice?
  • Can I get glasses and contact lenses there if I need them?
  • Does the practice communicate with my other healthcare providers when appropriate?
  • Most importantly, do I feel comfortable trusting this practice with my vision?

Those questions may tell you more about whether a practice is right for you than its distance from your house.

From Centerville to Ohio State to Cincinnati

Since this is Cincinnati, we might as well answer the high school question.

I went to Centerville High School.

I grew up in Ohio before attending The Ohio State University, where I studied Microbiology as an undergraduate. I stayed at Ohio State for optometry school and graduated from The Ohio State University College of Optometry in 2016.

My career eventually brought me to Greater Cincinnati, where I've had the opportunity to care for patients in both optometry and ophthalmology settings, including Thoma & Sutton Eye Care, Clarkson Eyecare, Midwest Ophthalmology Group, and the Cincinnati Eye Institute Foundation.

Working in different clinical environments taught me a great deal about eye care—from routine vision needs to helping manage more advanced eye conditions and knowing when collaboration with an ophthalmologist or another healthcare provider is appropriate.

But those experiences also helped me understand the kind of practice I eventually wanted to create.

When I opened See Well Eyecare in Hyde Park in 2025, I wanted to build a smaller, independent practice where relationships could develop over time—where patients could ask questions, understand their eye health, and know who they'll be seeing when they return.

And yes, I'm always happy when another Centerville Elk happens to find their way into my exam chair.

Looking for an Eye Doctor on Cincinnati's East Side?

See Well Eyecare is located in Hyde Park, making us especially convenient for patients from Oakley, Mount Lookout, Mariemont, Madeira, and surrounding East Side communities.

If you've been searching for a Hyde Park optometrist, Oakley eye doctor, or an eye doctor near Mariemont or Madeira, our office may be closer than you think.

Our goal isn't to provide the fastest possible eye exam.

It's to provide an experience where you feel heard, understand your vision and eye health, and feel confident about the recommendations you receive.

Looking for an Eye Doctor on Cincinnati's West Side?

If you're from the West Side, we know driving to the East Side can feel like more than simply crossing town.

We get it.

But healthcare is one area where finding the right fit may sometimes be worth the drive.

If you're searching for an eye doctor around Western Hills, Green Township, Bridgetown, Cheviot, Delhi Township, Dent, or Monfort Heights and haven't found the experience you're looking for, you're always welcome at See Well Eyecare.

We're not a West Side practice, and we don't pretend to be.

We're an independent Cincinnati optometry practice located in Hyde Park that welcomes patients from across the city who are looking for personalized care, continuity with their doctor, modern technology, and an experience that doesn't feel rushed.

For some patients, that's worth crossing town for.

One Practice for Your Changing Vision Needs

One advantage of developing a long-term relationship with an eye care practice is having a team that can continue caring for you as your needs change.

At See Well Eyecare, we care for patients ages 4 and older and provide services including comprehensive eye exams, pediatric eye care, contact lens evaluations and fittings, diabetic eye care, dry eye treatment, myopia management, medical and emergency eye care, and advanced retinal imaging.

We also have a full-service boutique optical, so patients who need new glasses can receive personalized frame and lens recommendations from the same practice that performed their examination.

Our goal is to make excellent eye care convenient without making it feel transactional.

A Cincinnati Eye Care Practice Built Around Relationships

See Well Eyecare was established in 2025 around one simple philosophy:

Exceptional eye care begins with relationships.

We want to know our patients.

We want you to feel comfortable asking questions.

We want children who first visit us at age four to eventually become teenagers and adults who still feel comfortable walking through our doors.

And we want adults who choose us for an annual eye exam today to know they have somewhere to turn if their vision or eye health changes in the future.

That's what independent, relationship-centered healthcare means to us.

Whether you're from Cincinnati's East Side, West Side, downtown, or across the river in Northern Kentucky, the goal is the same: listen carefully, explain clearly, and help you protect your vision for years to come.

Visit Our Hyde Park Office

See Well Eyecare is located at 2739 Erie Avenue in Hyde Park, in the same building as Hyde Park Pediatrics.

Our location is convenient for Cincinnati families, with Hyde Park School, Kilgour School, and nearby Montessori schools just minutes away.

We're also close to neighborhood favorites including Coffee Emporium and St. Francis Apizza, and directly across Erie Avenue from Cincinnati's unmistakable Mushroom House.

Best of all, you don't have to circle Hyde Park looking for a parking space.

Free patient parking is available behind our building.

Whether you're five minutes away in Oakley or considering making the trip from Cincinnati's West Side, we'll do our best to make your visit worth the drive.

Find Your Cincinnati Eye Doctor

The "best" eye doctor in Cincinnati isn't necessarily the closest practice or the first result that appears when you search "eye doctor near me."

It's the doctor and practice that are right for you.

If you're looking for an independent Cincinnati optometrist who values relationships, provides comprehensive eye care, offers glasses and contact lens services in one location, and takes the time to help you understand your eyes, we'd love the opportunity to meet you.

Whether you call the East Side, West Side, or somewhere in between home, you're welcome at See Well Eyecare.
